A dedicated would be better if you can afford it, http://www.kimsufi.co.uk/ks/ is the cheapest I know of but it depends what you will be using the server for.Temor wrote:I'm thinking about getting a new VPS or a Dedicated server.
I'll host a web-based game for a friend and also a couple of websites.jacek wrote:for a budget solution they are pretty good yesTemor wrote:Is it any good?

I'm counting on a total of around 20-50.000 unique visits per month.jacek wrote:Any idea on how much traffic those websites will get ?
You may need a dedicated server then, a VPS would be a good place to start for a few months though as they generally run on very high powered servers.Temor wrote:I'm counting on a total of around 20-50.000 unique visits per month.
I use Ubuntu servers, so if you go with that I can help with any set up issues, other than that pick one with a cool nameTemor wrote:Also, what OS should I go for? I have several options :
Definitely not "PLESK" thenjacek wrote: other than that pick one with a cool name
Alright. I'll start off with a VPS and then grow from there. If it's needed I'll just upgrade to a dedicated server or ask the local server farm if I can rent a slot.jacek wrote: You may need a dedicated server then, a VPS would be a good place to start for a few months though as they generally run on very high powered servers.
Alright. I'll probably go with Ubuntu since thats the only non-windows OS I'm familiar with.jacek wrote: I use Ubuntu servers, so if you go with that I can help with any set up issues, other than that pick one with a cool name

Alright.jacek wrote:Ubuntu 11.04 minimal x64 If that option is not available, pick a random one. for some reason more are usually available from the control panel once you have the initial set up done.
