Very cool ! I vary rarely actually see my desktop though and most of the time it is full of icons

Correct I think there were some changes to the installer with the latest version so you might have more luck. The alternate installation might also be worth a try.

Well, since my motherboard broke one or two weeks ago I can't play the game I normally play because I have this crappy motherboard that uses DDR2 memories and I only have 2GB of DDR2. Try running a game that requires (minimum) 3GB of RAM while at the same time running Windows 7 that requires 2GB

Making backups now and since I don't have a CD/DVD writer I'm making a Windows 7 installation USB stick just in case something goes wrong and then I'll be set to install Ubuntu

But I was able to solve it by doing this, hopefully it's a permanent and good fix, don't really know what it did...

Unfortunately I can't seem to enable surround sound for my Logitech G35 headset which makes the sound sound really weird. Which is a major turn down. Until I get another headset that works good with linux or until I can fix this issue I'm gonna stay with Windows.

Yeah video drivers often cause weird issues like that. If you are using the FGLRX driver you will probably need to run

sudo aticonfig --initial

which will generate the default xorg.conf file that ATI has decided is best for your card. I don't think the correct driver is actually used until you do that, you might notice that if you open the ati control panel (search for ccc) you get a warning about not having a ATI card installed.
