If anybody has taken examinations this year, in the summer post your results here.

In the UK, GCE (A level) results were issued today, thursday the 18th Aug. and GCSE are issued next thursday (25th) Aug.

Here's my results to get it started:

GCE
AS Mathematics - B (211 / 300)

GCSE
Media Studies - A (172/unknown)
English Language - B (unknown)
English Literature - A (unknown)
Biology - A* (371/400)
Chemistry - A (329/400)
Physics - A (355/400 5 UMS marks off A*. Damnit)
French - B (214/unknown)
Mathematics - A* (unknown/200)
ICT - M (equiv. A)

The reason I have 1 GCE and the rest GCSE is because I did my AS level early, AS is normally a college subject, and GCSE is high school. However I did 1 GCE within high school also.

So, well done to everybody who has taken their exams, and post your results here :)

I don't really understand how universities work

Is it 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 fail? Or what?

If so, Well done! :D if not, explain please? :D

I haven't got a clue how the English systems work so I don't know if I have to congratulate you two or not.

I can be very specific: I finished my study two months ago with good grades!

In order of best to worst
  • First
Second (split into 2-1 and 2-2)
    Third
    Pass with no grade
    Fail

Like libeco, I hardly even have a clue what you guys are talking about, so I guess I'll just assume you did a good job :)

Math E = G-
English C = MVG
Swedish C = IG (lol)
Biology, Chemistry, Physics = IG
Marketing A = G
Tourism = /
IT = MVG

Guess I gotta explain this a little bit.

IG = Bad, this means you failed. You were there and did some work but not enough.

G = Good, I assume this could be an average grade for everyone really.

VG = Very Good, if you want this you have to do some extra work.

MVG = Translated this would be Much Very Good but let's just call it the best, if you want this you have to every possible thing within the course and you have to thoroughly explain everything you do.

+/- = If you get a plus it means you're in between two grades, e.g. G+ would mean you're nearly at a VG. Minus means the same just the other way, i.e. VG- would mean you're almost at a VG but still not at a G.

/ = Nothing, you didn't do anything and you were NEVER there. Worse than failing

Onwards to the courses!
So Math is obviously just math... E stands for the difficulty I guess. There is A-F in almost all courses, A is the easiest and then going upwards.
English is everything related to the English language, reading, writing, spelling, speaking and so on.
Swedish at a later state is more about literature, reading and understanding certain texts and books and so on.
Biology, Chemistry and Physics is all in one, there is a fourth one but I didn't read that.

Marketing is only a course for people going Business and Administration. In Sweden we have different programs you can pick when you start your first year at...a school. I don't know the English word for it but between 16-18 and when you get older you can pretty much do it again if you want too. And one of these 17 programs is Business and Administration.

Tourism is also only a course for people going Business and Administration. The first year you have both of these and the second to third year you get to pick one of them.

IT is...IT stuff. You guys know about that

Long post is long, hope it made some sense

It makes sense if you're Swedish
But now, this school year they switched to A-F grades. Everyone who starts their first year as the A-F while me and the rest have IG-MVG :P

 I wasn't even supposed to have it at first, but then they added it so we would get enough "school hours"

Am I the only one that thinks the Dutch system is the easiest? Just 1 to 10 where 1 is really bad and 10 is really good. Everything higher than 5,5 means you pass. 8-)

That sounds pretty good to me !

I think the + and - additions make it too complicated, if you say you got a B+ people just thing that is a B and you are being greedy, like when kids say they are 8 and a half years old :D

God, I be this is what conversations in staff rooms are like !

In high school we did have + and - grades, like 6+, but it just meant 6,25.
