First dedicated server

Hello,

I would like to get a dedicated server to host some websites. It would be my first dedicated server though. I guess managing it could be done easily, and I wouldn't wanna pay for a dummy admin interface.

Has anyone used Kimsufi ? Maybe Jacek, you can help me more with that :P

How do you manage the server ? All through the terminal ? Cuz I suck at using it (although I guess I could learn how to use it). Or is there somekind of Team Viewer thing ?

Other than that, have you had any down times with Kimsufi yet ?

Thanks to anyone willing and able to help :P

Ive used Kimsufi before, and if you dont pay extra for the cpanel, then yes it is all by command line, i used PuTTY and wrote down my commands

Edit: oh yeah, and i never received any downtime in about 8 months. Not a single second :)

I'm never gonna pay 25€ / month for cPanel

Anyways, I'll try to get used to using the command line on my local server and get a dedicated server when I can manage every thing like that :) Thanks for the useful information !

You hire the server from them, when you get it it has just the basic OS. Then it's up to you to install whatever you want. If you want to install a GUI desktop environment you can do.

Also, I have been using them for about a year and a half and my server has never gone down (when it was not my fault that is), so I would say that the servers are pretty reliable.

The problem with having cPanel or some kind of GUI is that it's always running even when you don’t need it, once you get your sites set up and everything installed there is really very little management needed so it might be worth trying to stick with the terminal.
