I totally love Ubuntu right now!
Even though the kernel doesn't have "built-in" drivers for my graphics card so I can't actually run it I still love it!
Why you might ask, well...
...sometimes I'm a complete idiot, so I tried to install 11.04 on my other 80GB hard drive and when I realized it didn't work I went into Windows and formatted the 80GB HDD completely removing Ubuntu AND the bootloader! I didn't think about it at the time and it's been working perfectly the last week since I never turn my PC off. But then, this night it happened, Windows Update thought it would be funny to restart my computer!
I tried to fight it by opening a bunch of programs and then pressing on the cancel button when it politely asks "Do you want me to force shutdown these applications", but that screen never came up. No matter how much junk I opened, it just kept terminating it like a merciless pig!
So you know, I went with the flow until my screen read "GRUB: no device <random numbers and letters>". I immediately thought it had tried to boot onto the 80GB HDD so I rapidly pressed F8 when the computer restarted to boot from my other main HDD, but no. The screen read the same.
And this had to happen on the very day I had erased my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits DVD-RW just to load on some crappy movie I didn't even end up watching! For a second I thought it was a plot, a conspiracy against me. I gave up that thought pretty quickly when I realized I still had the Ubuntu install CD. Awesome as I am, I booted with the CD and ran Ubuntu "live" from the CD and fixed my MBR with MS-SYS!
And that is the amazing tale of I gained access to Windows again! All under 20 minutes!
Excuse the sloppy writing, spelling. It's 4:18 AM, I have cold, a headache and I haven't eaten in one and half days.
I love Ubuntu!!!
Re: I love Ubuntu!!!
Sounds like a fairly eventful night.
I watched a police vs junkie charchase through my neighbourhood last night. Was also kind of eventful. Not as thrilling as your night tho!

Re: I love Ubuntu!!!
I was thinking about this last night, it's interesting how the three big OSes have taken such different routes.
Linux (Ubuntu) is for people who like using the terminal, and in some way enjoy solving the little problems that come up. By being less advanced in terms of UI and giving the user more control of the core system it overall is a more flexible platform. It also seems that you are expected to know a bit about general computing, making a comparison to Windows. Gnome does not have a internet set-up wizard that tediously explains what wi-fi is, it has a list of available wireless networks that you can choose from.
Windows still allows a lot of customisation but it is a lot harder than on Linux and is sort of hidden from the user (to change the PATH environment variable you have to navigate through about 5 windows), you can't just make a quick bash script to do something you have to actually code and compile something to do anything complicated (that can't be done with a .bat file). Also they have concentrated on UI a lot more meaning you are not forced to love the terminal if you do not want to.
OS X has the complete opposite extreme, installing a program has been reduced to dragging an icon from one place to another (which I guess is effectively a confirm dialogue for idiots) which no longer represents what is actually happening. It is very easy, but if you are allowed much less access to the core of the OS.
