Do you have any experience in video editing?

I'd say the " best " software would be Adobe Aftereffects and / or Sony Vegas pro. But they cost a years salary ( almost ).

There are a few free ones out there that work " ok ". I use Magix Video Pro ( not sure if its free anymore.).

Other than that: Google is your friend :) There are tons of good tutorials on video editing.

after effects is the most suitable one.

I have made a couple before in the past, and there are also tutorials online, but as to how to do it. well, there is obviously different techniques, it depends on what your looking for and such. There is no definative answer to that, so just googel around or pay a freelancer? :)

Hmm I'll probably end up using after effects seeing as I already have a copy. I have only done a small amount of video editing in the past so i'm not that experienced. Paying a freelancer is unfortunately out of the question.

Well, maybe i can teach you how to do basics.

Its different to editing since your creating from scratch.

If you explain what you want to happen, i might be able to help you.

Well essentially I want something like digsby's video

I think they do a tremendous job at marketing their products.

do you mean from 0 - about 10 seconds where it is an actual title intro, or an intro to a product like the full video?

Yes, it does look very challenging. I was talking about the entire video. I want to do a full product video.

well, that does make it considerably more difficult..

I cant produce a tutorial on how to do the whole thing, that would take wayyy too long. but I can do one on the beginning bit? its fairly similar throughout, you just need to have some editing skills to single out each element (like the start menu bit)

I assume they did that sort of 'green screen' style, where they had a plain colour backdrop and then just edited that colour out using standard greenscreen methods so they got the start menu only.

And stuff like that.

Yeah, it doesn't look easy, but boy does it look good. You should make a tutorial on how to make a tutorial!
