Can you make PHP NOT open source?... like, you have something cool made in php but you don't want others to see the source (easily at least)

Not really no, there are things like Zend Gaurd, but there are also things like http://showmycode.com/ making that a bit pointless.

Anything compiled, but there are decompilers for most languages :?

I'm curious. What exactly does Zend Guard do? I've read about it before, but am not entirely sure what it does.

It is a php module that decrypts php code and processes it as normal code. There is a program that encrypts code to work with Zend Guard. The problem is that is far too easy to get the original source.
