Ubuntu - Grub Problems

Hello everyone,
I need some of your guy's help. I have a computer which was running Windows 7, and I decided to dual-boot with Ubuntu 11.10;
I used all the recommended settings, however, now I have no bootloader.
I can only boot into Ubuntu, and I cannot for the live of me get the grub menu to appear.
I have tried "sudo update-grub"; as well as purging and reinstalling grub.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated! Thank you

When you do update-grub, what does the list look like ? Does it include the windows OS ?

Thanks for the reply Jacek, I did end up fixing this though.
I fixed the windows boot installer through a recovery disc, and then installed a windows/linux based bootloader;
Everything appears to be working now!

Yeah sometimes installing Windows can hide the Ubuntu install. Never heard to if the other way around though.
ah well as long as you fixed it.

I seem to have been the only person on the planet with that kind of problem; it was quite annoying trying to find a fix, but it is all good now !
Once again I set afoot on my Ubuntu experience (inspired by you!)
** in case anyone is reading this with the intention of fixing their own problem:
1- Make a liveCD Windows recovery disc.
2- Boot to it and open the control panel.
3- Use the "fixmbr" command.
You should then be able to boot using your windows bootloader into Windows and fix it from there!
