What im thinking of doing, because im bored is Calculating the probability of winning the lottery + the total winnings that you could achieve.

Firstly, I have decided to do this for Euro Millions

The numbers range from : 1 - 50, with no duplicates then 2 'lucky stars' which range from 1 - 9

The probability of hitting the jackpot is: 116,531,800

But, i was wondering. How should i compile a database, so that if i enter the chosen numbers it comes up with every single winning ticket (even 2 matches, 3 mathches, etc)

Any ideas on how i should do this.

note: i obviously dont plan on spending £233,063,600 on lottery tickets.. But, im just curious.

Im going to run it on an old check to see if there is profit if you bought every single ticket

There is probably no need for a database of all tickets.

There is actually a number of tickets you can buy per week, that over a full year makes it ~95% likely that you make a profit. There was some maths that proved the number in one of out stats lectures. It's also illegal

So perhaps you can use maths to work it out rather than checking against a huge list.
