Opinion on site design?

Post by Helx »

Hi,

I had recently slaved away for around a week trying to produce somewhat of a decent website design.

Its a URL shortening service, much like v.gd, where it shows the browser the link before asking if they want to actually acces this site. It also incorporates BetterPHP's rating system, if a users allows the redirection (or 'Teleport', as a pun on Bukkit servers) then its upvoted, if they deny the redirection, then it adds a downvote. Too many downvotes = link disabled (or set to be investigated). I'm still thinking of a way to do this that won't just remove links (ultimately, abused). The point of the rating system is to remove spammy links.

Well, here it is :)

I used Twitter Bootstrap, jQuery, and my poorly CSS knowledge. Bootstrap makes things alot easier :)

I need to know if its 'ready' for publishing :)
If there are any other ideas, I'd be willing to know.

P.s. its still not functional, I still have to do the actual URL shortening.
I'll either use the BetterPHP method or YOURLS. (ideas?)

When I hear "URL Shortening" I instantly think "minimalistic". Your design looks good, but it's not minimalistic. I think as a URL shortening service, the focus should be on the actual service and not the bookmarklet. Those things should ( in my opinion ) be "hidden" away.

As I said, it looks good, but everything underneath the shorten form should be moved to where it is less visible. ( This is my opinion, don't put too much weight behind my words :P )

It's very pretty :D, but also pretty obvious that you used Bootstrap.

I tried minimalistic, but trust me it really doesn't work with this design.
I simply refuse to completely redo the whole thing :P

Okay, I took the advice of Temor and made it simplistic. :)

Sorry for the un-resized screenshots, I hadn't the time to scale them.
But I hope the site looks a little more present-able now :D

You could maybe add little links at the bottom to sections such as "Developers", otherwise I think it looks wonderful!

Slightly ahead of you there!

Apart from the fact that its just copyrights and whatnot, I'd rather not have any more pages :P
It'd get too complicated.
